Rhinoplasty Rhinoplasty, otherwise known as a nose job or nose reshaping, is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures performed in the United States today. The main goal of this procedure is to reshape the inner and/or outer nose for functional or cosmetic purposes. Men and women can both reap the benefits of this procedure and attain a newly shaped nose that has better functionality and is more aesthetically pleasing.

To find out more information regarding this rhinoplasty procedure and the benefits it can provide, please contact us at Clinique Sculpture today and schedule a private consultation with Dr. William Seare.

Reasons To Get Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty Both men and women may feel self-conscious when their nose appears to be out of proportion with the rest of their face. These patients may also experience dissatisfaction with the appearance of their nose, whether it have a slight bump or is crooked. These issues can occur due to a traumatic injury, age, or genetics. Nose reshaping, formally called rhinoplasty, corrects all of the aforementioned concerns, which can lead to an increase in self-esteem and self-confidence.

You know rhinoplasty has been performed well when other people do not directly notice your nose. Your nose should bring attention to your eyes. This is a motto Dr. Seare stands by and delivers to all of his patients, cosmetic or functional.

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty

There are a variety of reasons why patients choose to undergo a rhinoplasty. Often times, patients are simply unhappy with the appearance of their nose, therefore, leading them to seek this procedure strictly for cosmetic purposes. Through a nose surgery, Dr. Seare can correct concerns such as:

  • Bumps
  • Asymmetry
  • Nostril angle and size
  • Width of the nose
  • Large or protruding nose tip

This procedure can make patients feel very satisfied with their overall appearance, gaining confidence and a better self-image than ever before. Dr. Seare works very closely with his patients to ensure that they receive the best results possible. His expertise when working with the nose allows him to provide lasting satisfaction to each and every one of his rhinoplasty patients.

Functional Rhinoplasty

Another reason why patients undergo nose surgery is they are looking to correct issues that impair their ability to breath. Some patients are born with this hindrance, while others may have developed this issue later in life. Some of the particular reasons patients seek nasal functionality treatment are some kind of trauma to the nose or an unfortunate botched surgery that was previously performed.

No matter the cause, Dr. Seare can correct these concerns and improve breathing by working primarily on the inside of the nose; although in most cases, he does make improvements to the outer appearance of the nose as well for comprehensive results.

Dr. Seare uses the latest and greatest technology when performing his rhinoplasty procedures to ensure that he successfully restores function of the nose while also providing complete patient satisfaction.

Benefits Of Rhinoplasty

  • Making your nose proportionate with the rest of your facial features
  • Decreases the size of a nose hump
  • Modifies the shape of the nasal tip or bridge
  • Narrows the space between your nostrils
  • Changes the angle between your nose and upper lip

The nature of a rhinoplasty procedure and the best techniques to utilize will depend greatly on the changes that the patient is wanting to make the appearance of their nose.

Good Candidates

Good candidates for rhinoplasty are men and women who are seeking aesthetic or functional improvement to their nose. These patients should be in good health and have no underlying conditions that can negatively impact the patient’s recovery and their results. Patients who are considering this procedure should have realistic expectations.

There are no age limitations for the rhinoplasty procedure. However, Dr. Seare strongly advises that patients wait until their nose is fully developed before seeking a form of corrective treatment.

The age at which boy’s and girl’s noses fully develop are different; usually, for girls, it is between the ages of 14-15 and for boys, it’s between 16-17. However, to properly determine if the patient is ready for nose surgery, we ask that they contact our office and request a consultation with Dr. Seare in one of his San Diego locations.

Types Of Rhinoplasty

Augmentation

Augmentation rhinoplasty is designed to increase the fullness and size of the nose. Patients seek this procedure for functional or cosmetic reasons. Augmenting the nose can help improve structural support, add height to the bridge, and create a more attractive and proportional contour. This is done through bone or tissue grafting, but in some cases, synthetic materials can be used.

Reduction

Reduction rhinoplasty is performed to remove or reduce an aesthetically unpleasing contour and to help make a patient’s nose more proportionate to their visage as a whole. One technique would be removing a certain amount of cartilage from the tip of the nose. It is important to understand that when reducing one area of the nose, it can make another look disproportionate in comparison. This is why Dr. Seare takes every measure to make sure his patients leave with a proportionate nose that meets their expectations.

Septoplasty

Septoplasty is a form of rhinoplasty that specifically treats a deviated septum. The septum is the area of the nose that separates the right nostril from the left; it is made up of bone and cartilage. When a septum becomes deviated, it can lead to health concerns such as breathing troubles and nosebleeds. Restoring its position will allow for better functionality and improved airflow.

Post-Traumatic

Post-traumatic rhinoplasty if a corrective surgery that Dr. Seare performs after a patient has been in some sort of accident. For example, this procedure would treat a broken nose. The purpose of this surgery is to set the nose back to its correct position and restore function and aesthetic appeal.

Revision

Revision rhinoplasty is another corrective nose surgery offered by Dr. Seare, similar to the post-traumatic procedure. This form of nose surgery is specifically designed to correct botched surgeries. This procedure is very common and can be necessary to help patients attain the appearance they tried for initially.

Ethnic

Ethnic rhinoplasty focuses on achieving a patient’s desired results while preserving the nasal features of their ethnic background. Dr. Seare has worked with patients from a wide variety of backgrounds and makes sure to tailor each procedure to their individual needs.

Consultation

When coming in for the initial consultation, Dr. Seare will discuss with the patient what their concerns are and what they are trying to achieve. The doctor will then conduct a medical history evaluation, reviewing current health conditions, routine medications, and previous surgeries to ensure that this is the best and safest option for them. Next, he will perform a physical examination to make the final determinants for candidacy, as well as to identify their particular concerns. If found a good candidate, the patient and Dr. Seare will work together to build a customized treatment plan, including which nose surgery technique will be used during the procedure.

Before leaving the office, patients will be given the opportunity to schedule their rhinoplasty procedure if they desire, but there is no obligation to do so. Once the surgery date has been set, the patient will be given a list of preparatory instructions to follow to help provide the best procedure outcomes possible.

Procedure Techniques

The procedure itself is performed under awake anesthesia. Dr. Seare performs his rhinoplasty procedures in two different ways: the closed technique and the open technique.

Closed

When performing a closed, formally known as endonasal, rhinoplasty, the incisions for the surgery are all made inside the nostrils. This technique may reduce the amount of access Dr. Seare has to the bone and cartilage. However, this is often the preferred procedure because it has no visible scarring afterward. The doctor will make his best recommendation for the patient’s needs upon evaluation.

Open

For the open, or external, rhinoplasty, Dr. Seare will make an incision across the columella, which is the small area of the nose that connects the left and right nostril. The incision itself is very small, about 4-5mm in length. The method allows the doctor to lift the skin in order to have full visibility and access to the nasal structure. Patients may be left with a tiny scar on the tip of their nose, but it will continue to fade over time.

Both of these rhinoplasty techniques are very effective at providing the desired results. During the consultation with Dr. Seare, he and the patient can decide together which technique is the best fit for their needs, taking into consideration any pre-existing conditions and potential risks.

Recovering From Nose Surgery

After receiving treatment, patients are instructed to get plenty of rest.

Patients may experience slight discomfort during the healing process but it can usually be treated with aspirin. Dr. Seare will provide a prescription for pain medication to ensure that the most minimal amount of discomfort is experienced.

Patients will be instructed to keep their head elevated for the first few days after the procedure. It is important that the patient changes the bandages regularly and avoids touching the treated area to reduce the risk of possible complications.

Rhinoplasty It is common for patients to experience swelling and bruising throughout the nose and under the eyes after a rhinoplasty procedure. Patients will see a reduction in the amount of swelling after about 2-3 weeks. Depending on the particular case and the body’s efficiency to heal, final results can take up to one year to be seen. Patients will be asked to come back into the office for a couple postoperative visits so that their healing stage can be monitored by Dr. Seare.

Pricing

The cost of a rhinoplasty procedure varies from patient to patient depending on the type of nose surgery performed and if any additional treatments are required to obtain the desired results. Dr. Seare will meet with the patient and build a treatment plan that is tailored to their exact needs. Through this, he will be able to provide patients with an individualized quote for their rhinoplasty procedure.
