Gynecomastia

CONSULTATIONS OFFERED AT OUR TWO CONVENIENT LOCATIONS IN SAN DIEGO AND CARLSBAD

gynecomastia

Gynecomastia refers to the enlargement of male breasts. Enlarged male breasts aren’t necessarily physically harmful, but can cause significant embarrassment for the patient. Men may purposely avoid situations where their chest is exposed, which can cause even more discomfort when the weather is warm.

Dr. Seare is one of the foremost doctors performing cosmetic – especially gynecomastia – procedures with awake anesthesia in Southern California.

In order to find out whether or not the patient is a good candidate for the procedure, contact Dr. Seare at Clinique Sculpture to request a consultation.

About Male Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is the condition of large male breasts. Men develop enlarged breasts for a multitude of reasons including overproduction of estrogen, certain medications, and diseases like Klinefelter disease. This condition can take a large toll on men’s self-esteem and self-confidence. Often men with overdeveloped breasts will avoid swimming and going to the beach.

Male breast reduction can be performed in order to reduce the size of the male breasts and sculpt a defined chest. As a result of reducing the chest to a more typical size, men feel more comfortable in social situations and this can improve quality of life. Dr. Seare performs gynecomastia surgery using minimal incisions and awake anesthesia, which significantly reduces risks associated with surgery and makes for a faster recovery time. Good Candidates

Good Candidates Gynecomastia

When patients come in for a consultation, Dr. Seare evaluates them to see if they would be a good candidate for gynecomastia surgery. Men with enlarged breasts may be good candidates for male breast reduction if they have already tried reducing the size of their breasts through traditional techniques, like diet and exercise, but to no avail. This is often the cause because enlarged male breasts are often a cause of excess glandular tissue, which is not the same as fatty tissue. However, Dr. Seare can treat both excess glandular tissue and fatty tissue; the approach is just different. This is why the consultation is important; to differentiate the underlying cause and determine the appropriate treatment.

Patients should be in good health. If they have any health concerns, they should be sure to talk to Dr. Seare about them. This is important information for the doctor so he can ensure the patient’s safety throughout the procedure and recovery. Furthermore, they should be non-smokers and non-drug users.

Good health also means that the patient should be in good mental health. They must have specific goals in mind and realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure. The doctor will go over the procedure with the patient in more detail at the time of the consultation.

Dr. Seare’s Technique

Fortunately, Dr. Seare offers men a solution for gynecomastia with male breast reduction treatment. Dr. Seare has perfected and refined Micro Liposuction procedures, including his patented lipo cannulas. These instruments provide a rotating spatula-tip that gently, evenly, and effectively removes fat and difficult to remove fibrous gynecomastia breast tissue. His technique is even effective for very fibrous fatty tissue in bodybuilders and extremely fit individuals with localized fat deposits. Since Dr. Seare performs male breast reduction using Awake Anesthesia, this procedure takes only a few hours in our office and patients are free to return home.

Alternative Techniques

Severe cases of gynecomastia may require alternative techniques. This may be particularly true if the patient’s skin has stretched out too much and cannot tighten into its newly contoured shape. If this is the case, then the patient will require an excision reduction mammaplasty technique. This technique may require general anesthesia.

With the excision technique, small incisions are made around the areola and natural creases of the breasts where resulting scars will be least noticeable. In this way, glandular breast tissue and excess skin can be removed. If necessary, the areolas can be repositioned to a more proportionate placement.

Recovery

Recovery Gynecomastia

Bandages, dressings, and other post surgical garments will be provided and applied prior to the patient being discharged. Elastic support bandages or compression garments will likely be placed around the chest to help minimize side effects, such as bruising and swelling. It will also help the body settle into its new contour.

During the recovery period, pain medication will be provided by the doctor to help ease discomfort. Patients should be able to return to their normal routines, including work and light exercise, within a week.

The doctor will provide more details on what to expect during recovery prior to surgery at the time of the consultation.

Other Procedures for Men

Plastic surgery for men is becoming more and more popular and Dr. Seare makes it easier than ever with his awake anesthesia techniques. This way, men can accomplish their surgery and get back to their routines faster than ever! While men benefit from a variety of our procedures, including facelifts, rhinoplasty, and more, liposuction and injectables are two of the most common.

Liposuction

Diet and exercise are necessary techniques for keeping off the unwanted pounds, but, especially as we age, fat deposits tend to settle and are harder and harder to get rid of.

For men, this frequently occurs around the midsection – abdomen, flanks, and back – arms, and thighs. This is often a result of genetics or heredity. Liposuction for men, sometimes called liposculpture, is a personally tailored procedure to help men sculpt their body, getting rid of excess fat deposits that won’t budge no matter how much the patient tries. It is often performed at the same time as gynecomastia treatment.

Liposuction is an extremely popular procedure amongst patients of all sexes. It is performed at Dr. Seare’s office using state-of-the-art liposuction techniques. Micro Liposuction, which Dr. Seare is one of the few doctors performing, is an advanced liposculpture technique. This technique is extremely effective for gynecomastia patients, but also patients concerned with fat deposits on other parts of their bodies.

Injectables

Besides their bodies, men understand that their faces are equally important in instilling their confidence so they can feel better taking on obstacles at work, dating, and in day-to-day interactions. Injectables, including botulinum toxins and dermal fillers, are some of the most effective anti-aging agents available and require little procedural or recovery time.

Botulinum toxins, such as Botox and Xeomin, help fight dynamic wrinkles. These wrinkles frequently occur around the eyes and nose, as a result of repeated muscle contractions. These repeated contractions result in lines and wrinkles, including crow’s feet and horizontal forehead lines.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are designed to treat static wrinkles. These wrinkles form as a result of a loss of collagen and elastin in the skin and stay present when the face is at rest. This is a normal occurrence with aging. As opposed to dynamic wrinkles, static wrinkles are best treated by adding volume underneath the skin and softening the creases.

Injectable treatments are not performed for men in the same way as they are for women. Men and women have different facial structures and aesthetic goals, which Dr. Seare fully understands.

Consultation

The consultation is the first step in gynecomastia treatment. When the patient arrives, Dr. Seare will ask the patient about why they are interested in gynecomastia and what they hope to achieve. As previously mentioned, it is important that the patient has realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure. Dr. Seare will be able to provide before and after photos of prior patients so that the patient can visualize his results. Nonetheless, outcomes do vary from patient to patient. During this time, the patient should also inform the doctor of medical history, including illnesses, medications, and prior surgical work.

The second part of the procedure will consist of an examination. Dr. Seare will need to examine and analyze the patient’s condition to determine the underlying cause of chest enlargement and whether or not the patient would be a good candidate for the procedure.

In the final part of the consultation, the doctor will outline the procedure plan. He will go over all the steps in the procedure and what the patient should expect. The patient will also have the opportunity to ask any outstanding questions they may have about the procedure. In order to get the most out of the consultation, we recommend that the patient comes prepared with a list of questions they may have for the doctor. The cost of the procedure can also be discussed at this time.

Cost

The price of gynecomastia surgery can vary widely. However, gynecomastia with liposuction and using awake anesthesia will make the procedure less costly than invasive surgery. The cost will be determined by Dr. Seare at the end of the consultation, once he has had the opportunity to assess the patient’s individual condition.
